Arnold tries to ride - the surging Blue Tide

I have been so busy with the new job and I know the blog has been getting the short end of the stick. I have very little free time right now but I think things will settle in over the next week or two. I will still post daily and even a few times a day when possible.

I am still feeling optimistic that Americans are beginning to loose faith in Republicans and conservative policies. I have always believed it was a movement based on false logic and twisted facts. It seems that more and more people are agreeing with me.
Even Arnold! Oh he jumped on the apparent Republican bandwagon in the 1980's perhaps knowing that experience, intelligence and competence was unimportant to gaining Red support. But oh how he is shifting gears. After his humiliating losses in November and his slide in the polls, Governor Schwarzeneggar is now taking a sharp turn to the left. Not only is his new Chief of Staff a Democrat, she was close to Grey Davis who Arnold ridiculed during the Recall vote. To top it off she is a lesbian "married" to her partner!
This transparent attempt to jump from one bandwagon to another shows me that this "outsider" is turning out to quite a politician after all.

SACRAMENTO, California (Reuters) -
California's Republican Gov. Arnold named a Democrat in a same-sex marriage as his chief of staff on Wednesday in an apparent political shift on the heels of a major electoral defeat.

Susan Kennedy, 45, was the confidant and number two to ousted Democratic Gov. Gray Davis whom Schwarzenegger beat in a bitter recall election in 2003. She married her lesbian
partner in 1999.
The appointment of a woman who once served as the California Democratic Party executive director and has led campaigns for abortion rights angered some Republicans."The appointment of Susan Kennedy as chief of staff to the governor is a betrayal of the hard-working activists that supported the governor during the recent special election," said Mike Spence, president of the California Republican Assembly.

Another opponent immediately set up a Web site www.stopsusankennedy.com where visitors were urged to sign a petition seeking to rescind the appointment.

Happy Birthday Dad!

I love you Dad. Have a great birthday.

Fighting For Freedom?

We hear over and over that our troops are in Iraq fighting and dying to give the people there freedom. "Freedom of the press", non existent during the reign of Saddam, is one of the primary goals stated by war supporters. Unfortunately the term "freedom of the press" mean something different in Red America than it does to the rest of us. Even more discouraging is the fact that we are spreading, not American values, but the distortion of truth so fashionable with the Republican party. Values, yes. American, no.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US military is secretly paying Iraqi newspapers to print stories written by US soldiers in an effort to polish the image of the American mission in IraqUS military "information operations" troops have written the articles, which are translated into Arabic and placed in Baghdad newspapers with the help of the Lincoln Group, a Washington-based defense contractor, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Many articles are presented to Iraqi newspapers as unbiased news accounts written and reported by independent journalists, the daily said, citing documents it obtained and unnamed US military officials. The stories denounce insurgents and tout the work of US and Iraqi troops and the US-led effort to rebuild Iraq.

Colts remain unbeaten

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Colts are shoving aside challengers as if they'll never be beaten. Now the Pittsburgh Steelers are out of the way, too. From their first offensive play Monday night, the unbeaten Colts dominated the Steelers, winning their 11th straight game 26-7. Peyton Manning hit a streaking Marvin Harrison in stride for an 80-yard score, and the Colts never looked back.

Now they can look forward to the final month of what is becoming an extraordinary season. The 11th team ever to go 11-0 and the first since Denver in 1998, the Colts have beaten three of their main AFC competitors -- the Patriots, Bengals and Steelers (7-4) -- in a span of four weeks.

Although there are some significant obstacles ahead in their quest to match the 1972 Dolphins' perfect regular season, such as meetings with San Diego, Jacksonville and Seattle, the Colts should be favored in all five remaining games.

Dolphins fans sweating the Colts

Way, way back in 1972 the Miami Dolphins went undefeated and won the Super Bowl. No team had done it before and none since. This year the Indianapolis Colts have gone 10-0 with just 6 regular season games to go. Every year the players from the '72 Dolphins get together when the last undefeated team looses to drink Champaign.

Fans like me, who have little to cheer about the Dolphins since their last Championship in 1973, breathe a huge sigh of relief. Tonight the Colts face a tough team, the Pittsburg Steelers on Monday Night Football. It may be the last chance for Indianapolis to loose and for the Dolphin record to stand. With our sorry record (again) this year it may be the only thing Miami fans have to cheer about. So go Steelers, beat the Colt and make them loosers!
