What a mug!

By now everyone has seen Tom Delay's famous smiling mugshot. The question has been asked "Who smiles for mugs hots"? HERE is the answer.

The above pic is the mug shot we might have seen if Tom Delay had been rustled up and dragged into prison without first stopping by the beauty parlor.

What will Tommy Boy look like after some time doing hard time? This is one possibility.

I made it!

I am in New York safe and sound. Now unpacking the truck. I have some fun stories from the road and will write it all up soon. But for now - unloading. :)

UPDATE7:00pm: Sarah and I got the truck 3/4 unloaded before calling it day. We carried the heavy stuff up all 5 floors before deciding it was enough for now. Because I was so quick in my travels I still have 2 days to return the truck. This evening I have been just trying to get the apartment in order. I sure am tired and I think that my first night in New York Citywil be spent sleeping well. Tomorrow I will finish unpacking and start writing my "travel story" which will be posted in the next few days

Thanks to everyone who has sent their best wishes and who called me during my 18 hour driving marathon Wednesday. It meant a lot and was very helpful.

On your Mark...

I got the truck today. A ten footer at that. They were really nice at the Budget rental place. They really worked hard to get the right size van for me and were great as I was picking it up. I am almost all packed now and ready to break down the computer. I plan to hit the road early in the morning and get to the city by Thursday night. I will try to post something then. Wish me well and call me on Wednesday during the day if you know my number so that the monotony of the drive will be broken up.

Talk to you in New York!

Four extra feet

So the truck rental place only has 14 foot trailers instead of the 10 foot one I ordered a couple weeks ago. Though they offered to give me the bigger truck at the same price I asked them to keep looking. Not only would I have extra room in the back but I am sure the gas mileage would be even worse. I talked to a friend of mine who had his own moving company. He said that he was surprised that they even said they had a 10ft. truck. He said anytime he had to rent, the smallest was 14ft. He also told me the gas mileage difference is not very much since the engine is the same only a pulling a slightly larger box. Anyway tomorrow morning I will pack it all in and hit the road soon there after. I am getting more and more excited. Fortunately I have also been anticipating problems such as this and planned for the extra time. UPDATE: Talked to the truck people. They will have the ten footer ready first thing in the morning.

COUNTDOWN TO NYC : 4 Days !

Well as much as I look for more stuff to pack I think I pretty much have it all together. I have been surprisingly ahead of the game as far as that is concerned. Monday afternoon I pick up my U-Haul (from Budget rentals actually) and Friday afternoon I have to drop it off in New York. I will be in NYC by Thursday evening.

My departure time is still somewhat up in the air. Somewhere between really early Tuesday morning to mid morning on Wednesday. It is about 24 hours on the road not including breaks. If I drive solo I will leave on Tuesday and stop and go as long as I can last. If my travel buddy makes the trip then that gives us a little more leeway.

I have to break down the computer and pack it up soon. I may wait until Monday afternoon so that I can stay plugged in as long as possible. I should repost by then. If not, definitely when I get to the city. Friends and family will be updated by phone.

I am getting so excited about the trip. I am still sad that I am leaving so many friends but the corner has turned and I am looking forward more than looking back. As someone told me the other day if you can make it in New York City you can make it anywhere. Not very original but poignant all the same.
